The casino's size appeared to be perfect for the number of guests on board. ![]() We enjoyed the first and walked out of the second. There were 2 shows, "Burning The Floor" and "Six: The Musical". My rating on the entertainment is AVERAGE. ![]() We would have spent most of our free time up there to get get some relaxing quiet time, but there are ZERO lounge chairs in the shade. The biggest disappointment is the lack of shade in the adults-only H2O Spice area on Deck 16. If sunning yourself is a goal, then you're golden (pun intended) on this ship. It may not be your thing, but well worth trying out - at least you get to know a few faces to say hello to should you pass them on the ship.…ĪTMOSPHERE: All-in-all, the Breakaway is an OK ship. You don't have to be single, just on your own on board, One of the Entertainment Staff is always there, introducing us all and making bookings for dinner, Theatre shows etc. Liked the Solo meetings I think most of the NCL ships hold every evening. Staff were excellent, from the Captain to the Entertainment Staff, Dining staff, Cabin staff, Office staff and Cleaners, who all seemed to do a very good job. So - the ship, food, cabins, and entertainment were all very good. ![]() I would have loved at least one that included a boat trip and snorkelling, for example. Not sure if beachbeds were provided, but I gathered that everything else had to be paid for. There were just 2 or 3 that took cruisers by coach to a beach, left them there and collected them to go back to the ship later. My one disappointment was that all the tours were land based. There were also some very pretty islands, the only problem being that when (as happened more than once) they are quite swamped with tourists when 4 large cruise ships at a time arrive and they have around 11,000 tourists landing on their shores! I suppose it is their livelihood and they do not want to turn cruise ships away but it really shows in the queues that build up on shore, especially Santorini, the town being high up and just one cable car (or a steep walk or donkey ride - poor things) to get everybody up there. The only comment is that the pool is only really for standing up in and having a chat, not for swimming in! The Itinerary was Italy and Greece, both mainland and islands, plus Malta, (which seemed to impress everybody) and very good for all who are interested in Greek history - Olympic games background etc. The usual buffet is on the same level as the pool area and some of the bars and dining rooms are outside on the sidewalks. The Atrium is where all the Guest Services are located and also has a giant screen for films and live music plus those silly games that once you start watching you end up staying until it ends! The food was good in all the restaurants I visited. It did not feel over-large, the space has been well divided up so as not to feel too crowded anywhere. The ship has plenty of dining rooms (both free and extra payment-my payable extra favourites were La Cucina and Le Bistro) bars, small club-type rooms with live music, Shops, Casino, Gym, Spa - in fact all the usual amenities found on board. I was not sure about the larger ships, as against the smaller ones (2200-2600 passengers) I had been on before the Joy, but after the first day or so of no-one knew where they were going to then settling down, moving around came a lot easier. I was happy with my balcony cabin, it was identical to those on the NCL Joy, on which I had sailed in April so I knew my way around it! As a solo cruiser their was plenty of space, a nice bathroom and very clean. ![]() Civitaveccia is NOT really a port to load on almost 4000 passengers! By the time I got on, the cabins were ready. After a chaotic 1-3/4 hr snake-line in the hot sun - no water, no shade - I finally made it onto the Breakaway. ![]() ![]() ![]() For lithium batteries that are installed in a device (laptop, cell phone, camera, etc.), see FAA regulations for "portable electronic devices, containing batteries. It also suggests that the region doesn't just activate in response to actual faces it also appears to activate in response to people's belief that they have seen a face. The finding that the FFA is involved specifically in face pareidolia fits with previous studies, the researchers wrote. A birdwatcher, for example, might use the FFA to tell the difference between a sparrow and a wren. This region has long been known to be involved in the recognition of faces, though recent research suggests that it helps people identify the differences between any objects of expertise. They found those differences in the fusiform face area (FFA), a small region on the side of the brain, behind the ear. The participants reported seeing faces 34 percent of the time and letters 38 percent of the time, despite there being none in the images they saw.īecause the researchers asked participants about letters as well as faces, they were able to tease out differences in brain activity associated with mistaken identification of a letter and those associated with mistaken identification of faces. The results revealed that priming people to look for identifiable objects in random patterns is bound to create a few hits. The men were again asked to press a button to indicate whether they saw a face or letter in the pattern. This time, however, all of the images were secretly just visual noise. The men were asked to push one handheld button if they saw a face (or letter) and another if they could not.Īfter this initial test, the men saw another series of images and were told half contained faces (or letters). The face and letter experiments were done separately, a week apart for each participant, but the set-up was the same. The final image was pure black-and-white, splotchy noise. Two others showed letters, again with one easy to see and one difficult to spot. Two images showed male faces, one easy to discern and the other camouflaged. The researchers first asked the men to look at a series of images, all of which were obscured with the kind of static-y visual "noise" you might see on a television with a bad cable connection. This blood flow signals increased neuron activity in those regions. The fMRI measures changes in the magnetic properties of oxygen-rich and oxygen-depleted blood, which enables researchers to tell which areas of the brain are getting an influx of blood flow at any given time. To study what goes on in the brain during these misidentifications, the researchers recruited 20 Chinese men and asked them to look at imagery while in a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine. The neural basis of this phenomenon is less understood, however, researchers from the University of Toronto and several institutions in China report in Cortex. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here I’ve used one of my favorite tequilas for mixing with cocktails: Espolón Reposado tequila.
